The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmidt checks a leg kick.
Schmidt throws a lazy right hand but Covert sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Schmidt closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Schmidt gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Schmidt has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Schmidt takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Covert has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Schmidt missing with a left hand there. Covert was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Covert misses with an uppercut. Schmidt saw that one coming.
A little feinted left hand from Schmidt on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Covert uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Schmidt.
Covert lands a nice shot that snaps Schmidt's head back.
Covert throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Schmidt on the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ripa comes to the cage accompanied by American Woman. Brady comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Whose Line - Best of Wayne Brady kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ripa is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio.
