Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Liddel!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Liddel looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Liddel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Liddel doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Smith counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Liddel!
Smith wants to control but Liddel is keeping him busy.
Smith creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Liddel sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Liddel keeps working.
Liddel wants to control but Smith postures up.

Smith is looking to take a break and control but Liddel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smith in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smith working away.
Liddel is looking to reverse the position.
Liddel manages to work his way to half guard, despite Smith's best efforts.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Liddel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.

Liddel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back!

Liddel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Liddel manages to pass to mount!

Smith tries to hold on but Liddel pushes him away.

That was a close round but I would say that Fabio Smith will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Liddel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Smith is trying to defend but Liddel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Smith wants to control but Liddel is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Liddel thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.
Smith works his way to full guard. Good work.
Liddel seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Liddel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Liddel moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Liddel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Liddel is looking to stand up but Smith won't let him.

Liddel wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Liddel must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Smith holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Smith avoids the body shot from Liddel.
Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Liddel sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Liddel throws a lazy head kick

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Liddel won't be happy with that.
Liddel tries to improve position but can't.
Smith wants to control but Liddel is keeping him busy.
Liddel gets back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smith prevents Liddel from improving his position.
Liddel wants to get back to full guard but Smith has passed into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Fabio Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Liddel tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Liddel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Liddel has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Liddel trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.

Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Liddel is aware though and is defending well.
Liddel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Smith is trying to push Liddel off with his feet but Liddel grabs hold of one of the legs and drops back looking for a submission! He's cranking on one of Smith's ankles and Smith is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaall over!

Silverstein avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The fighters circling - Silverstein throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Silverstein.
Silverstein tries to score with some ground and pound. Patch controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Patch tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silverstein wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Silverstein is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Silverstein!
