The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pis takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Rantanen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pis was well out of range. Poor timing from Rantanen.
Mat Pis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rantanen thuds a left hand into Pis's body.
Some bone on bone action there as Rantanen checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Pis ducks right into an uppercut from Rantanen.

Pis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pis showed some decent athleticism there.
Rantanen tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Pis manages to move to mount!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rantanen can do anything to dispel that myth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rantanen holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Pis tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pis jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rantanen is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rantanen and Pis has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

We've been hearing that Pis has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pis connects with a nice short shot to Rantanen's temple.

Pis is looking for a kimura but Rantanen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pis to get the leverage.
Rantanen is controlling Pis's trapped leg to prevent Pis from advancing to side control.
Rantanen is looking for a sweep. Pis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Pis is nestled in close to Rantanen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Pis crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Rantanen punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

Let's hope that Kamenev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Short throws a shot from downtown. Imanari moves away and avoids it.
Imanari attempts a counter takedown but Short avoids it well and moves away.

Short darts in and clinches Imanari up against the cage.

Short breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Short misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Imanari.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Short stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Imanari swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Short is posturing up here but Imanari has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Short tries to roll out but it's too tight and Short has to tap! Slick submission there by Imanari!
