The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Wanker drops his shoulder and cracks Mendoza with a huge uppercut! Mendoza goes down! Can Wanker finish him?
It looks like Jason Mendoza has been cut.
Wanker tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendoza is retaining full guard.

Wanker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wanker is on top in guard.

Wanker pushes down on Mendoza's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mendoza felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Wanker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mendoza does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wanker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mendoza is just riding it out for now. Wanker eventually gives up the hold.
Wanker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendoza keeps working.

Wanker wants to work for an arm triangle but Mendoza is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
