The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chloride.
Chloride with a poor takedown
and Ruiha counters with a lovely straight right hand!
It looks like Sodium Chloride has been cut.
Ruiha avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ruiha scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Chloride doesn't seem bothered though.
Ruiha connects with a crisp jab.
Sloppy strikes from Ruiha. Those never looked like landing.
A countering left hand to the body from Chloride misses.
Chloride walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Ruiha swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Tama Ruiha!
Tama Ruiha spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes misses with a takedown attempt - Laird sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Holmes lands a glancing blow to the side of Laird's head.

Holmes darts in and clinches Laird up against the cage.

Laird works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Holmes wants to stand up but Laird is controlling him.
Laird content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Laird stands up over Holmes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Laird passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Holmes is pushing Laird's head away, looking to escape. Laird manages to hold on to the position though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Holmes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Laird in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Laird is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Holmes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Holmes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Holmes sneaks out the side door and pushes Laird away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Laird throws a body punch but Holmes moves out of range.
Holmes looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Nice takedown defense from Laird. No joy for Holmes on that attempt.
Laird takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Holmes throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Laird sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Holmes scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

and Laird counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Holmes wants to stand and escape but Laird is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Laird seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Laird definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Laird postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Laird makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Laird lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Laird controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Laird keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Holmes's head.
Holmes is rocked!
Laird has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Laird arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Holmes's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Archie Laird!
During a confident post fight interview, Archie Laird thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
