The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick from Van Den Born lands but Hopkins takes it in his stride.
Van Den Born looks to throw the jab but Hopkins is out of range.
We've been informed that Van Den Born has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Hopkins bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Van Den Born's head backwards.
It looks like Ko Van Den Born has been cut.
Van Den Born misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hopkins.
Hopkins lands with a right hand.

Van Den Born uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hopkins.

and Hopkins counters with a crisp right hand that drops Van Den Born! Hopkins lets Van Den Born back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ko Van Den Born seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Van Den Born connects with a body shot that sends Hopkins's belly button to the back.
Hopkins misses with a looping left.
Van Den Born throws out a counter right but Hopkins avoids it with no problem.

Van Den Born takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Van Den Born dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A combination from Van Den Born does no damage.
Van Den Born throws a good cross that connects.
Hopkins throws a push kick but Van Den Born slaps the foot to one side.
Hopkins slips a straight right by Van Den Born.
Hopkins is looking to counter punch.
Van Den Born misses with a body punch
and Hopkins cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That has opened up Ko Van Den Born's cut even more.
Hopkins uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Van Den Born.

Hopkins takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Hopkins.
Hopkins throws a half hearted mid kick.
Hopkins throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Van Den Born takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Van Den Born on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Donk. Hopkins catches Van Den Born right on the button with a cross.
The cut above Ko Van Den Born's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Hopkins connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Hopkins displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Van Den Born throws out the jab.
It appears Hopkins was looking to counter with a kick there.

Hopkins swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hopkins.
Van Den Born throws a right hand that misses

and Hopkins counters with a nice right hand that sends Van Den Born toppling to the canvas! Van Den Born scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Hopkins finish him?!
Van Den Born is rocked!
Van Den Born throws the left hand but Hopkins avoids the punch easily.
Hopkins slips a jab from Van Den Born.
Van Den Born throws a lazy uppercut
and Hopkins counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Van Den Born off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - Hopkins follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Van Den Born was out before he hit the floor.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Giuseppe Hopkins!

Giuseppe Hopkins tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
