A looping hook to the body misses from Drnold. Kennedy does a little dance to reset his feet.
A little feinted left hand from Kennedy on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kennedy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Drnold takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Conan Kennedy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Drnold throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Kennedys head.
Drnold is trying to break free.
Kennedy lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Drnold backwards.
Drnold prevents a body shot from Kennedy.
Drnold tries to circle away but Kennedy has him pinned against the cage.
Drnold working hard to break the clinch.

Drnold pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kennedy thuds his right hand into Drnold's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Conan Kennedy.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kennedy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mauro Okongwu!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Okongwu clinches up with Manivong and pushes him back against the cage.
Manivong swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Manivong lands a hook that snaps the head of Okongwu backwards.
It looks like Mauro Okongwu has been cut.
A short body shot lands from Manivong as the two fighters clinch.
I was talking to Manivong's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Manivong blocks an uppercut.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Manivong.

Manivong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Okongwu throws a half hearted mid kick.
A jab from Manivong does it's job there.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Okongwu lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Manivong has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Manivong and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Manivong moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Okongwu looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Okongwu checks the leg kick nicely there.
Okongwu tries to clinch up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Manivong throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Okongwu on the side of the head.
Okongwu is looking to clinch but Manivong is avoiding it.
Manivong swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Manivong misses with a straight right.
Okongwu feints a counter leg kick.
Manivong tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Okongwu is able to avoid easily.
It seemed like Okongwu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Manivong misses with a hook. Okongwu ducked under it nicely.
Okongwu swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Manivong.

Manivong moves into the clinch successfully.
Manivong is trying to break free.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Okongwu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Manivong tries to work over Okongwu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Manivong lands an uppercut.
That has opened up Mauro Okongwu's cut even more.
Nice body punch from Okongwu - that landed with a thud.
Manivong misses with a punch to the body.
Manivong has a couple of punches blocked by Okongwu.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Manivong drops down looking for an ankle pick but Okongwu pulls his leg out and moves away.
Manivong checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Okongwu lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. Okongwu drops Manivong with a beautiful combination! Manivong stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Okongwu is looking for the KO!
It looks like Akuma Manivong has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Okongwu drops Manivong with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Manivong looks back up at him and smiles so Okongwu waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Okongwu drops Manivong with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Manivong! Okongwu dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mauro Okongwu!
Mauro Okongwu is the new heavyweight champion!
