The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cockatiel with a poor takedown
enabling Van Der Livery to counter with a crisp jab.
Van Der Livery slaps away a takedown attempt from Cockatiel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Van Der Livery! But no joy.
Horrible takedown attempt by Cockatiel or perhaps it was just good defense by Van Der Livery, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Treacherous Cockatiel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Van Der Livery bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Cockatiel's head.
Van Der Livery looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Van Der Livery drops Cockatiel with a beautiful combination! Cockatiel stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Van Der Livery is looking for the KO!
Cockatiel is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Van Der Livery lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Cockatiel up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Van Der Livery from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Cockatiel's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ford Van Der Livery! Ford Van Der Livery retains his welterweight title!
During a confident post fight interview, Ford Van Der Livery thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
