PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wulfgar Beornegar (ranked 2371 p4p, 246 weight class) and Sergey Makarov (ranked 3182 p4p, 316 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beornegar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Makarov! But no joy.
Makarov lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

And Makarov tries to counter it with a takedown but Beornegar pushes his down on his head and steps out.

My spies in St Petersburg MMA Gym inform me that Makarov has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Oooh a big shot gets through from Makarov. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Makarov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Makarov lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
