PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pann Khumpai (ranked 2658 p4p, 258 weight class) and Ryan Hall (ranked 2163 p4p, 221 weight class). Hall is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bandit. On his way into the cage it seems that Pann Khumpai has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Pann Khumpai seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pann Khumpai!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Hall!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khumpai lands a nice looking kick to the body. Hall takes a step back to recover.
Khumpai feints a jab promting Hall to slip. Khumpai then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hall slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Khumpai throws a right and a left that Hall avoids nicely.
Hall slips under a jab.
Khumpai slaps away a takedown attempt from Hall, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Khumpai checks a leg kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hall or perhaps it was just good defense by Khumpai, which made it look bad.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khumpai explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Khumpai dips to his left and cracks Hall with an uppercut!
Hall closes the distance and clinches up with Khumpai, looking for a takedown. Hall pushes Khumpai against the cage but Khumpai circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pann Khumpai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Hall.

Hall has a takedown stuffed.
And Khumpai counters with a quick kick to the body but Hall blocks it.
A combination from Khumpai does no damage.
And Hall tries to counter it with a takedown but Khumpai pushes his down on his head and steps out.

and Khumpai counters with a three punch combo that has Hall backing up. Hall nods at Khumpai to acknowledge the strikes.
Khumpai works the jab nicely.
Khumpai is looking to slow Hall down with leg kicks.

Khumpai gets a clinch.
Khumpai missing with knees to the body.
Hall tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hall jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Khumpai walks away with a smile on his face. Hall gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Hall takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Pann Khumpai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Khumpai feints and then cracks Hall's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hall down.
Khumpai works over Hall's head and body with a nice combination.


Hall is rocked!


It looks like Ryan Hall has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hall.
Khumpai stuffs the takedown.
Hall takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Khumpai lands with a thumping leg kick.

Hall throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Khumpai was covering up waiting for the punch and Hall finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hall prevents Khumpai from getting back to his feet.

Hall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Khumpai is keeping the position for now.
Khumpai is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hall is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hall thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hall trying to control the position from guard on top but Khumpai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hall doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Khumpai counters with a left and a right that stings Hall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hall with a poor takedown
and Khumpai counters with a nice uppercut.
Khumpai displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hall.
It looked like Khumpai wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Khumpai moves in looking to clinch but Hall pushes him off.
Hall fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hall tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Khumpai displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hall.
A nice leg kick lands there from Khumpai.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pann Khumpai dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ryan Hall's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hall tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Khumpai defends well and Hall ends up having to push Khumpai into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hall darts in looking for a takedown but Khumpai gets double underhooks and turns Hall into the cage.
Hall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khumpai pinned against the cage. Khumpai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Khumpai throws a right hand that Hall ducks under and follows up with a left that Hall also avoids with ease.
Hall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khumpai pinned against the cage. Khumpai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Khumpai feinted there with a counter leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khumpai misses with a few strikes there.

Hall is stalling in the full guard.
Hall prevents Khumpai from getting back to his feet.
Khumpai keeping moving, preventing Hall from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hall slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Hall goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Khumpai rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hall's guard! Nice work there by Khumpai!

Hall is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Khumpai is aware though and is defending well.
Khumpai has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hall has his feet on Khumpai's thighs here. He's pushed Khumpai off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Khumpai screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
