PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cole Elliot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rusty Everson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elliot comes to the cage accompanied by Gay Fish. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cole Elliot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rusty Everson!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Lou da Vinci and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Everson tries to land a leg kick but Elliot saw it coming and moves away.
Everson fails in his attempt to clinch.

Everson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Everson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Elliot. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Elliot takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Elliot is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Everson off and has taken his back!

Elliot has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Everson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Elliot is not going to allow Everson to sit and survive in this position.

Everson defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Elliot's arms.

Elliot looking for the choke but no joy.
Elliot is trying to stick to Everson's back but Everson is turning into Elliot. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Elliot's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Everson.
Everson stays in close to Elliot's body and controls the position.

Everson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Elliot has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Everson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Everson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Everson wants to stand but Elliot is controlling his posture from full guard.

Elliot is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Everson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Everson throws a jab when Elliot was well out of range.

and Everson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Elliot won't be happy with that.
The referee asks Everson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Everson prefers to stall for the moment though.
Everson is looking to take a break and control but Elliot is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Everson tries to advance to mount but Elliot denies him.
Elliot manages to get back to half guard.
Elliot is pressing down on Everson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Everson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Elliot tries to roll over but Everson keeps him under control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Everson content to stall in guard here.

Rusty Everson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Elliot shoots and misses

Elliot tries to bench press Everson off him but Everson keeps the position.
Everson laying and praying for a moment but Elliot takes advantage and regains half guard.

Elliot regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Everson.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Everson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Elliot swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rusty Everson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Eversonis looking to pass into half guard but Elliot pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Elliot is in guard.

Everson wants to stand and escape but Elliot is having none of it.

Elliot postures up in Everson's guard and throws a big left but Everson blocks it.
Elliot is fighting to break Everson's control of his arms but Everson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Elliot tries to free his leg and advance position but Everson is retaining full guard.

Elliot drops back, looking for a kneebar! Everson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Everson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Everson!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Everson wants to stand but Elliot has his arm trapped.
Elliot is looking to regain half guard here but Everson keeps moving and retains side control.

Rusty Everson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Everson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
