Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov (ranked 4412 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Batista (ranked 6134 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo Batista is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Rodrigo Batista!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batista looks for a takedown but Gazimagomedov sprawls well.
Batista tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gazimagomedov leaves Batista with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gazimagomedov appears to be looking for a big counter.

Gazimagomedov seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Batista is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Batista is defended easily by Gazimagomedov.

Well, if Gazimagomedov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gazimagomedov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Batista for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Batista dives in and grabs Gazimagomedov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gazimagomedov pushes down on Batista's head and hops out.

Batista tries to close the distance and clinch but Gazimagomedov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Batista enables Gazimagomedov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Batista manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gazimagomedov connects with a nice short shot to Batista's temple.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gazimagomedov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gazimagomedov is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Batista has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gazimagomedov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Batista with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

A close second round but Rodrigo Batista will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Batista shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gazimagomedov as he jumps to the side.

Gazimagomedov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gazimagomedov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gazimagomedov lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Batista had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gazimagomedov defends it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gazimagomedov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Batista is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gazimagomedov defends well.
Gazimagomedov is working Batista over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gazimagomedov looks up at the clock and then as Batista takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gazimagomedov smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Well Gazimagomedov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
