PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Philip Darly (ranked 25375 p4p, 502 weight class) and Curtis Pattonson (ranked 3584 p4p, 327 weight class). Darly kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sympathy for the devil-Rolling Stones. The key to victory for Philip Darly has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Philip Darly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Curtis Pattonson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pattonson avoids the head kick by Darly.
Pattonson wants to counter the offense by Darly and move into the clinch position.
Pattonson takes one to the side of the head.

Pattonson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Darly quickly recovers to half guard.
Pattonson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Pattonson stands up from half guard.
Darly stuns Pattonson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Pattonson closes the distance and clinches.
Darly wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pattonson has him pressed against the cage.

Pattonson lands a takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Darly wants to get back to his feet but Pattonson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Pattonson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Pattonson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Darly pinned against the cage. Darly gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Darly was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pattonson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Darly was covering up waiting for the punch and Pattonson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Darly lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Darly missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Pattonson is pulling down on Darly's head. It's preventing any offense from Darly, at least for the moment.
Darly is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pattonson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Darly is controlling him.
Darly will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pattonson has Darly pulled in close to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pattonson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Darly manages to get himself to full guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Darly has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pattonson has passed into side control.

Pattonson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nice uppercut there from Darly.
Pattonson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Darly swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Pattonson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Darly's guard.

Darly is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Pattonson presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A frustrated look appears on Darly's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Pattonson fails to pull guard.
Darly is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pattonson is stalling here.
Darly wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
A short right from Pattonson.

Pattonson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pattonson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Darly stops Pattonson from standing up.

Pattonson looking for a guillotine here but Darly defends easily.
Pattonson trying to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Curtis Pattonson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Darly catches Pattonson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Darly throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Pattonson counters with a crisp one two that drops Darly! Pattonson thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Darly to his feet! Darly is in big trouble!


Darly is rocked!

Pattonson dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Darly has had enough and taps out.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Curtis Pattonson!
