PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Graves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Graves comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Pastor Troy - Who Ya Gonna Call kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Steven Knight has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Steven Knight seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Steven Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, James Graves!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knight shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Graves as he jumps to the side.
Knight is looking to clinch.
Knight shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Graves stalks Knight and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Knight's face. Knight staggers backwards, shaken.
Knight shoots in and drives through. Graves sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Knight. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice uppercut there from Graves.
Graves will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Knight takes one to the side of the head.
Graves misses with a body shot.
Knight takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Knight is rocked!
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Graves.
Oh Knight is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Knight tries to pull guard but Graves holds him up against the cage and eventually Knight drops back down to his feet.
Knight swings wildly with an uppercut but Graves uses good head movement to avoid it.
Graves is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Knight seems to have got his legs back now.
Graves lands with a left to the head.
Graves tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Knight swings wildly with an uppercut but Graves uses good head movement to avoid it.
Graves has a couple of punches blocked by Knight.

Knight jumps into guard, dragging Graves to the mat.
Knight manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Graves wants to control but Knight is having none of it.
Knight trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Graves tries to lock up and control but Knight gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Knight throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Knight looking to control but Graves is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Graves is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Knight is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Graves can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Knight cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Graves tries to hold on but Knight postures up.
Knight can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Graves is looking to escape.
Knight won't let Graves get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Knight tries to control but Graves wriggling away.
Knight scoring with strikes but Graves is staying in there.
Graves is in all sorts of trouble here.
Knight has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Knight postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Graves looks a forlorn figure.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Graves can do anything to dispel that myth.

Knight has control of Graves's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Graves regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Graves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Knight. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Graves wants to control but Knight is having none of it.

Graves might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Knight kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Graves is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Knight is staying active.

Knight doesn't have the hooks in and Graves manages to turn into his guard.

Knight has a closed guard, preventing Graves from standing up.

Knight manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Knight wants to control the pace but Graves is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Steven Knight will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Graves lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Knight blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Knight with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.


It looks like James Graves has been cut.
Knight lands an uppercut.
Knight lands with a right to the head.
Knight is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Graves gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Knight has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Graves is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Knight misses with a takedown attempt - Graves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Graves throws a right and a left that both miss.

Graves moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Knight throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Graves's waist but Graves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Knight off to one side.

Graves instigates a clinch.
Knight is trying to drag Graves to the mat but Graves just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Graves lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Graves lands with a right to the head.
Graves lands a hook to the side of the head.
Graves pushes Knight back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Graves presses Knight against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Knight's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

James Graves seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
