Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DeShawn West (ranked 334 p4p, 39 weight class) and Daniel Barbosa (ranked 536 p4p, 72 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, DeShawn West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Barbosa!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbosa on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by West. West obviously looking to wear him down.

West tries to keep at a distance but Barbosa has taken the fight into the clinch.
West lands with a left to the head.
West is trying to force a seperation but Barbosa has the dominant position.
West can't find room to land a body shot as Barbosa controls the action.
Barbosa jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as West walks away with a smile on his face. Barbosa gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Barbosa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It looked like West wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
West clobbers Barbosa with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Barbosa looks to throw the jab but West is out of range.
West looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Barbosa darts in trying to clinch
enabling West to counter with a crisp jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Barbosa walks into a stiff left hand from West.

That's one minute gone in the round.
West misses the shot to the body.
Barbosa works over West's head and body with a nice combination.
Barbosa throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
West throws a jab but it's blocked by Barbosa.
West throws a right hand that misses

and Barbosa counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Barbosa.
Barbosa misses with a hook to the ribs.
West lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Barbosa backwards.
Barbosa doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Daniel Barbosa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
West pushes Barbosa away with a front kick.
Barbosa connects with the punch.
Barbosa loads up on a big right hand but West slips the punch.
West slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
West throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Barbosa.
Barbosa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. West manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Barbosa tries to clinch up but West circles away and keeps his distance.
West throws a nice outside leg kick.
West avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barbosa misses the body punch
and West counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
West swats away the attempt to clinch by Barbosa.
As Barbosa looks to move away, West throws a big counter combo but Barbosa just gets out of the way.
Barbosa slips a jab from West.

Barbosa rushes West and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Barbosa tries to pull guard but West won't allow it.

West manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barbosa swings widly with a right hand
and West counters with a right hand to the body.
Barbosa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Barbosa throws an uppercut from half a mile away. West sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Barbosa blocks a jab.
West takes one to the chin there.
Barbosa smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Barbosa looks to score with a jab to the body but West is just out of range.
Barbosa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
West lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Barbosa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but West moves away.
West jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Barbosa misses with a body shot
enabling West to counter with a crisp jab.
West uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Barbosa.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barbosa cracks West with a good jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barbosa throws a big shot that misses.
West avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barbosa's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Barbosa duly obliges.
Barbosa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but West manages to avoid it.
West cracks Barbosa with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Barbosa misses with a left hand

and West counters with a nice right hand that sends Barbosa toppling to the canvas! Barbosa scrambles and gets back to his feet - can West finish him?!


Barbosa is rocked!
Barbosa throws out a loose jab but West uses good head movement to avoid it.
Barbosa is still on wobbly legs! Can West finish him?
Barbosa leaves his chin hanging out and West seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Barbosa crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). DeShawn West!
DeShawn West decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
