PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DeAndre Curry (ranked 3935 p4p, 0 weight class) and Creed Jr (ranked 4528 p4p, 0 weight class). Curry comes to the cage accompanied by To Be Loved. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DeAndre Curry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Creed Jr!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jr throws a right hand that Curry ducks under and follows up with a left that Curry also avoids with ease.
Creed Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Curry moves out of range of the leg kick from Jr.
Curry half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Jr fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Curry is looking for a counter combo.

Jr instigates a clinch.

Jr breaks from the clinch.

Jr gets a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Curry jumps guard but Jr stands there with Curry around his waist. Curry gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jr's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Let's hope that Jr has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
It looks like Jr might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Jr is continuing to stall.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jr stands up from Curry's guard - Jr perhaps looking for a knockout.

Jr gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A frustrated look appears on Curry's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jr blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Jr has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Curry clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Jr lands strikes to the head.
Curry is breathing heavily.

Jr is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Curry is defending well though. Jr let's go of the attempt for now.
Jr controlling the position well here. Curry rolled but Jr kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Jr is working the ground and pound. Can Curry escape?

Jr controls the position.
Jr scores with punches to the body.
Jr is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Jr gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Jr gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Jr apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Jr misses with a two punch combination.
Jr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Curry is fending him off so far but Jr persists. Nope, Curry circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nice takedown defense from Curry. No joy for Jr on that attempt.
DeAndre Curry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Creed Jr.
Jr closes this distance looking for a takedown but Curry circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Creed Jr dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Jr closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Jr decides to pull guard.
Jr has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Jr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Curry doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Curry manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Curry trying to stand up but can't free himself from Jr's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Curry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jr on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Curry slaps away a takedown attempt from Jr, before circling back to the center of the mat.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Curry tries to keep at a distance but Jr has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jr wants to break free but Curry has control.

Jr pulls Curry into guard.
Jr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Curry manages to get himself to full guard.

Jr distracts Curry with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jr is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Curry is working an open guard so Jr takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jr.
Curry defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jr.
DeAndre Curry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Creed Jr.

Jr is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Curry's half guard.
Curry is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jr scores with a couple of nice shots.

Jr forces Curry back against the cage and clinches.

Curry lands a head kick. Jr smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Jr misses with a head kick.
Curry looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jr throws a sloppy head kick and Curry moves out of range easily.

Jr drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Creed Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Jr shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Curry is wriggling around but Jr manages to pass to half guard.

Jr is pressing down on Curry's thigh, looking to free his foot. Curry is holding on for now.

Jr is working Curry over with some ground and pound from side control.

Jr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jr.
Curry wants to get back to his feet but Jr is dominant here and he's now got Curry's back!
Jr has good solid back control here.

Jr is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Curry is defending well though. Jr let's go of the attempt for now.

Jr is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Curry with him. Curry is trying to defend but Jr has an arm under the chin now! Curry grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Creed Jr!
In defeat, DeAndre Curry stepped up to the mic, saying 'He fought well. You have to give him all the credit and respect he deserves.'.
