PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Edwards (ranked 4363 p4p, 0 weight class) and Warner AZ (ranked 3986 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eddie Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Warner AZ!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Skip Squint and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards stuffs the takedown attempt from AZ. AZ gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Edwards was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Edwards slips a jab from AZ.
AZ tries to clinch but Edwards moves out of range.
Horrible takedown attempt by AZ or perhaps it was just good defense by Edwards, which made it look bad.
AZ tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Edwards paws at him with a jab and circles away.
AZ fails to land with a series of punches.
Edwards scores with a jab to the body.
Edwards tries to close the distance and clinch up but AZ swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edwards misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
AZ stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and AZ wants it to stay on the feet.
AZ doesn't manage to clinch there - Edwards circles away.
Edwards fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Edwards is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables AZ to keep the fight standing.
AZ is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
AZ is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
AZ keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Edwards's efforts to push away.

AZ breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Edwards displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from AZ.
Edwards attempts a counter takedown but AZ avoids it well and moves away.

Edwards changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. AZ tries to avoid it but Edwards manages to keep hold of a leg and drag AZ to the ground. AZ escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
AZ throws a series of strikes that have Edwards backpedaling.
AZ shoots in for a double leg but Edwards sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Edwards takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
AZ has a takedown stuffed.
Edwards appears to be looking for a big counter.

AZ drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Edwards is looking to get back to his feet here but AZ is keeping cool and he's managed to take Edwards's back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
AZ slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

AZ lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Edwards looking very determined here, making life difficult for AZ.

Edwards is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Warner AZ dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


AZ shoots in but no luck this time.

AZ shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. AZ showed some decent athleticism there.
AZ is figuring out what he wants to do next.

AZ is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Edwards doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time AZ.
Edwards is looking to control AZ's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Edwards avoid being mounted?

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edwards is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
AZ lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Edwards wants to improve his position but AZ is controlling well.
AZ performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Edwards is looking to improve his position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Warner AZ has got the better of the ground game so far.
AZ is controlling the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
AZ swats away the attempt to clinch by Edwards.

Warner AZ seems to be getting the better of the standup.
AZ throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

AZ drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Edwards might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
AZ avoids the strikes from the bottom by Edwards.
Edwards is looking to reverse the position.
Edwards wants to get back to his feet.
AZ is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Edwards's shoulder. That is not cool.

AZ thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
AZ has control of an arm but Edwards manages to advance to AZ's back!

Warner AZ showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Edwards seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Well AZ has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
