PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Brown (ranked 1285 p4p, 152 weight class) and Lazuran Riku (ranked 2046 p4p, 232 weight class). Brown comes to the cage accompanied by Somebody Gonna Get It. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 43 - 3, fighting out of Hilo, John Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 11 - 2, fighting out of New York, Lazuran Riku!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riku gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Brown to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Brown postures up in Riku's guard and throws a big left but Riku blocks it.
Riku is adopting a defensive guard.
Riku is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Brown is refusing to be controlled, as Riku sits in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Riku decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Riku feints and then cracks Brown's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Brown down.

Brown rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Riku moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Brown shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Brown showed some decent athleticism there.

Brown is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Riku doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brown.
Riku is looking for a sweep. Brown is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Brown throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Riku counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Brown is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Brown will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Riku tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Brown is able to avoid easily.

Brown shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Riku's guard.

Riku manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Brown has hold of one of Riku's legs. Riku is fighting the takedown attempt but Brown gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

and Riku counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Brown ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Riku moves away.
Brown lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Riku looks like he's trying to stand up.
Riku is trying to control but can't.
Brown lands with a punch from half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Brown lands a nice short elbow.

A close second round but Lazuran Riku will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

A nice leg kick lands there from Riku.
Brown fails to land with a series of punches.
Riku throws a hook but Brown blocks it.
Riku swings for the body but Brown moves out of range.
Brown seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Riku throws a one two combo.
Brown throws a left and a right that both miss
and Riku counters with a straight that turns Brown's legs to rubber! Riku pushes forward with more strikes and Brown goes down, battered and bloody! That's a wrap folks!

Lazuran Riku decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
