PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Harrel (ranked 4426 p4p, 0 weight class) and Probability Bennett (ranked 4337 p4p, 435 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Harrel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Probability Bennett!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jonathan Paton and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bennett lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Harrel backs up against the cage.


It looks like Jay Harrel has been cut.
Harrel dives in for a single leg takedown but Bennett sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Harrel closes the distance and clinches.

Harrel jumps guard and drags Bennett to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Bennett passes into half guard.
Harrel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bennett trying to control from Harrel's half guard. Harrel has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Bennett pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Harrel is keeping the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Harrel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Harrel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Harrel tries to get out of the position.
Bennett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bennett is in close to Harrel's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Bennett wants to stand and escape but instead Harrel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Bennett throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Harrel escapes and throws Bennett's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Bennett is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Harrel thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bennett is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Harrel asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Harrel taking a break here but Bennett is having none of it and regains half guard.

Harrel escapes and gets back to his feet.

Harrel drives through and clinches with Bennett against the cage.

Bennett avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Harrel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Harrel throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Bennett passes Harrel's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Bennett is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bennett working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Harrel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bennett is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jay Harrel will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bennett shoots in for a double leg but Harrel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bennett tries to close the distance and clinch but Harrel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Harrel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bennett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Harrel somewhat.
Bennett lands a jab to the head.
Harrel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Harrel avoids the body shot from Bennett.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bennett shoots in looking for a takedown. Harrel tries to sprawl out of it but Bennett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Harrel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Harrel shoots in for a takedown but Bennett shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Harrel fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Harrel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bennett doesn't manage to clinch there - Harrel circles away.
Harrel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bennett.
Bennett tries to clinch but Harrel is having none of it.
Harrel swats away the attempt to clinch by Bennett.
Bennett wants to clinch up but Harrel keeps it at a distance.
Bennett closes this distance looking for a takedown but Harrel circles away.

Harrel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Harrel throws a series of strikes that have Bennett backpedaling.
Nice takedown defense from Bennett. No joy for Harrel on that attempt.

Harrel drives through and clinches with Bennett against the cage.
Bennett is trying to stall.
Bennett misses with a hook to the ribs.

Harrel manages to pull guard.
Harrel trying to control the position.
Bennett stopping the sweep attempt from Harrel.

Harrel wants to stand but Bennett is controlling the position.

Harrel is looking for a triangle but Bennett pushes his legs off easily.

Harrel throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bennett escapes and throws Harrel's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Bennett lands a nice forearm strike.
Harrel is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Bennett trying to control the position but Harrel is working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Harrel is looking for a sweep.
Bennett tries to stand but Harrel is controlling his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bennett bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Bennett shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Harrel but Harrel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bennett throws a big shot that misses.

Harrel closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Harrel breaks the clinch.
Harrel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bennett tries to avoid it but Harrel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bennett to the ground. Bennett escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Harrel shoots in and drives through. Bennett sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Bennett or perhaps it was just good defense by Harrel, which made it look bad.

Harrel drives through and clinches with Bennett against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Harrel successfully pulls guard.

Harrel has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Bennett is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Harrel has had enough of the clinch but Bennett keeps him there for the moment.
Bennett can't break the clinch.
Harrel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bennett can do to turn this around?
Bennett is trying to push Harrel away but Harrel has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Bennett jumps guard but Harrel stands there with Bennett around his waist. Bennett gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jay Harrel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Probability Bennett.

Harrel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bennett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bennett wants to control from the top but Harrel keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bennett throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Bennett looks to throw the jab but Harrel is out of range.
Harrel shoots in looking for a takedown. Bennett tries to sprawl out of it but Harrel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bennett manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bennett moves in looking to clinch but Harrel pushes him off.
Bennett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Harrel swivels and escapes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Harrel clinches up against the cage.

Harrel works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Bennett isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Harrel stacks Bennett on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Harrel!
Bennett tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Harrel presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Harrel blocks Bennett's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bennett wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Harrel.
Bennett keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jay Harrel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Harrel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
