The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Franzi or perhaps it was just good defense by Carter, which made it look bad.
Carter doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Franzi counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Franzi gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Carter regains guard.
Franzi really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carter pulls Franzi in close to prevent any damage.
Franzi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Franzi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter is looking to stand back up but Franzi counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Carter.

Franzi seems to be looking for submissions.
Carter is looking to control Franzi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carter avoid being mounted?
Franzi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Carter.
Franzi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Franzi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carter wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Franzi throwing shots but Carter is blocking nicely.
Franzi is thwarting Carter's attempts to control the position.
Franzi wants to pass to mount but Carter is defending the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Carter gets the takedown into side control.
Franzi can't do much from the bottom here.

Carter is looking to take a break and control but Franzi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Carter wants to control but Franzi is keeping him busy.
Franzi is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Carter off and has taken his back!

Franzi working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Carter is doing well to defend. Franzi seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Carter is forced to tap and this one is over!
