PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hamish McTavish (ranked 1180 p4p, 145 weight class) and Macho Randy (ranked 1454 p4p, 165 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hamish McTavish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Macho Randy!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randy checks the leg kick.
Randy tries a quick counter leg kick but McTavish is wise to it.
Randy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McTavish stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

McTavish is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Randy's half guard.

McTavish is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Randy sees it coming and defends easily.
Randy regains full guard. Nicely done.
McTavish missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Our spies down at at whitey's gym inform us that Randy has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
McTavish controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
McTavish has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McTavish thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McTavish throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McTavish wants to control from the top but Randy keeps moving.
McTavish postures up and lands a big shot to Randy's brow.
McTavish tries to free his leg and advance position but Randy is retaining full guard.
McTavish throws a big elbow that misses.
McTavish is looking to work some ground and pound but Randy has wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Randy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McTavish.
McTavish shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Randy counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nice sprawl there from Randy as McTavish shoots in.
McTavish shoots in looking for a takedown but Randy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing McTavish's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hamish McTavish. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McTavish throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Randy was covering up waiting for the punch and McTavish finishes the takedown easily into guard.
McTavish controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Randy has his hands on McTavish's head, controlling the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McTavish trying to control but Randy is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
McTavish fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
McTavish goes for a double leg but Randy avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Randy continues to drive forward.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A bone on bone clash there as Randy blocks the leg kick.
McTavish is looking to land body kicks.
Randy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McTavish.
Randy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McTavish stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Randy lands a nice leg kick that just misses McTavish's sensitive parts.
McTavish misses with a low kick.
McTavish bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Randy's head.
McTavish scores with a push kick.
McTavish is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Randy throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
McTavish throws a chopping leg kick but Randy manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Randy looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Randy lands with a thumping leg kick.
Randy lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
McTavish uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Randy.
McTavish changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
McTavish throws out a loose jab but Randy uses good head movement to avoid it.
McTavish checks the leg kick.

Randy darts in and clinches McTavish up against the cage.
McTavish misses with some punches.
Randy lands a nice shot to the body.
A short uppercut from Randy.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McTavish wants to stall.
Randy scores with a shoulder strike.

Randy lands with a short shot to the head.
McTavish changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Randy fights it off and pushes away nicely.
McTavish throws a leg kick but Randy checks it.
McTavish needs to keep his hands up - Randy had a free shot at his head there.
Randy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Macho Randy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Randy throws a nice inside leg kick.
Macho Randy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Randy lands a jab to the head.
Randy on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Randy lands with a light punch inside.
A nice left hand lands by Randy.
Randy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McTavish has a couple of punches blocked by Randy.
Randy stops a takedown attempt from McTavish.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Randy.


It looks like Hamish McTavish has been cut.
Randy throws a big uppercut that drops McTavish! More strikes from Randy and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! McTavish lies dazed against the cage as Randy celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Macho Randy!
Macho Randy decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
