PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bowser Brown (ranked 4324 p4p, 429 weight class) and Gerry Tank (ranked 5232 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bowser Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gerry Tank!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tank sprawls well initially but Brown persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tank has one foot on Brown's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Brown's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Brown duly obliges.


It looks like Gerry Tank has been cut.
Tank tries to land a leg kick but Brown saw it coming and moves away.

Brown looking to score a takedown here. Tank is defending well but Brown drives through and ends up in Tank's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tank thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Tank bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brown's guard.


Tank is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Brown wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Tank is now in half guard.

Tank is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brown doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tank.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tank is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brown sees it coming and defends easily.

Tank controlling the action here.
Brown is trying to stand up here but Tank is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brown keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Brown is looking to improve his position.

Tank stands up out of the half guard.

Brown drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Tank has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Brown off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Brown misses with a double jab.
Brown tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tank defends well and Brown ends up having to push Tank into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Tank shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Brown manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Bowser Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tank or perhaps it was just good defense by Brown, which made it look bad.
Tank tries to clinch up but Brown circles away and keeps his distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tank gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Tank pushes Brown off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tank shoots in for a takedown but Brown shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tank takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Tank throws a looping overhand right but Brown ducks down to avoid it.
Tank looks to score with a jab to the body but Brown is just out of range.

Brown shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tank manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Tank has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Brown has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Tank breaks the clinch.
Brown moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Brown misses with a takedown attempt

and Tank counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Tank.
Tank is trying to drag Brown to the mat but Brown just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gerry Tank will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A head kick misses from Tank.
Tank slips a jab and a cross from Brown.
Nice sprawl there from Brown as Tank shoots in.
A left and a right from Brown both land. Nice combination.
Bowser Brown is winning the standup battle so far.
Brown tries for a takedown but Tank sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Brown looking to score a takedown here. Tank is defending well but Brown drives through and ends up in Tank's guard.

Tank wriggles free and stands up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brown closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A looping hook to the body misses from Brown. Tank does a little dance to reset his feet.
Brown falls off balance throwing a combination
and Tank counters with a series of strikes. Brown will be more careful next time no doubt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Brown swinging wildly here.
Tank flicks out a counter leg kick but Brown steps away.

Tank dives in and scores a takedown into Brown's guard.
Brown is looking to stand back up but Tank counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Brown.

Tank is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Brown!

Brown might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Tank looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Tank with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Brown is trying to escape the mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brown is working hard here to advance position.
Brown is squirming around, avoiding Tank's attempts to control the action.
Brown tries to lock up and control but Tank gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Tank with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Tank wants to finish this one by submission but Brown is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Tank.
Tank lands a nice shot to the head.
Tank tries to control but Brown wriggling away.
Brown is trying to reverse the position but instead Tank has taken his back - oops!

I really don't envy Brown right now.
Brown trying to get back to his feet but Tank is in full control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tank lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Brown hold on?!
Tank keeps control of the position as Brown tries to break free.

Brown tries to roll but Tank sticks to his back.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gerry Tank showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Tank goes for a double leg but Brown avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brown continues to drive forward.
Brown fails to land the takedown.
Tank fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tank takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Brown darts in looking for a takedown but Tank gets double underhooks and turns Brown into the cage.
Tank fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tank is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tank shoots in for a double leg but Brown sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bowser Brown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerry Tank.

Tank bucks up and tries to throw Brown off but instead Brown has got his back!

Brown thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tank manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Tank.

Tank is trying to control the position but Brown postures up.

Brown shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tank is trying to defend but Brown finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Tank gets tackled into the cage by Brown. Brown maintains the clinch.
Tank goes for a takedown in the clinch but Brown prevents it.

Brown jumps guard and drags Tank to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Tank misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Brown seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Brown will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Brown drives through with a takedown into Tank's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Tank shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Brown defends it nicely.
Bowser Brown has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sloppy strikes from Brown. Those never looked like landing.

Brown gets tackled into the cage by Tank. Tank maintains the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tank breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tank stuffs the takedown attempt from Brown. Brown gets slowly back to his feet.
Brown misses with a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Tank feints and as Brown raises his hands in defense, Tank changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gerry Tank is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Brown on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Brown tries to get out of the position.

Brown throws his legs up looking for a submission but Tank uses it to pass to side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gerry Tank comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tank winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
