PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Berg (ranked 2897 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Jones (ranked 4422 p4p, 430 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Berg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Jones!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Berg cracks the inside of Jones's front leg.

Berg tries to sprawl but Jones drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Jones content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Berg is looking to improve his position.
Jones wants to pass the guard but Berg is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Berg tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Berg. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Berg is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Berg not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Jones wants to get up but he can't break Berg's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Berg circles away quickly and effectively.

Jones throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Berg tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jones is in Berg's guard.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Jones is looking to stand up but Berg won't let him.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jones won't allow Berg to get back to his feet.
Berg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Berg lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

and Berg cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is putting a hurting on Berg here, landing some big shots from side control.
Jones tries to score with some ground and pound. Berg controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Berg tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Jones wants to stand but Berg is controlling his arm.
Jones has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Berg!

Berg throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Jones lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Berg feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Jones's calf.
Berg tries to work over Jones's front leg with a kick but Jones checks it.
Berg fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mike Berg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jones leaves Berg with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Jones drives through and clinches with Berg against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Berg wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jones has him pressed against the cage.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jones misses with an attempted mid kick.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Berg wants to control but Jones postures up.
The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones wants to stand but Berg has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Jones distracts Berg with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Berg takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Berg gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jones to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jones wants to pass the guard but Berg is keeping the position.

Jack Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jones has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Berg works to full guard.

Berg closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Jones throws a head kick that misses.
Berg half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Jones slaps away a takedown attempt from Berg, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Berg. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Berg takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Berg enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Berg manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Berg is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jones is working Berg over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jones looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Berg!

Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but Berg is defending well.

Berg takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Jones lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mike Berg has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jack Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Jack Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
