PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Janssen (ranked 5786 p4p, 571 weight class) and Kentrell Turner (ranked 4790 p4p, 518 weight class). Kentrell Turner will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lucas Janssen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kentrell Turner!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Janssen swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Janssen throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Turner counters with a left to the body.
Janssen throws a combination that misses
and Turner counters with a nice body shot.
Janssen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Janssen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Turner looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Janssen wants to take a breather but Turner manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Janssen.

Janssen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Turner manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Janssen has Turner in his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Janssen wants to sweep here but Turner controlling him for the moment.

Turner is looking to stand up but Janssen won't let him.
Janssen trying to keep a closed guard but Turner is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Janssen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Janssen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Janssen tries to get out of the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Turner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Janssen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Janssen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Turner shoots in looking for a takedown but Janssen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Turner's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Turner circles away from the clinch attempt.
Turner has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Janssen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Turner throws a series of punches but Janssen avoids them all with ease.
Janssen shoots for a double leg takedown but Turner sprawls well. He's pushed Janssen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Janssen has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Janssen looks to score with a jab to the body but Turner is just out of range.
Turner throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Janssen on the side of the head.

Janssen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kentrell Turner has got the better of the ground game so far.
Turner is controlling Janssen's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Turner is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Janssen jumps into side control!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Janssen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Janssen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Turner manages to break the clinch.
Turner lands a nice looking kick to the body. Janssen takes a step back to recover.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Janssen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Turner swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Janssen counters with a single leg into guard. Turner didn't expect that.

Turner scrambles and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kentrell Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Janssen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Janssen showed some decent athleticism there.
Turner is refusing to be controlled, as Janssen sits in half guard.

Janssen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Turner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Janssen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Turner has managed to free his arm - good work.
Janssen trying to mount his opponent but Turner defends it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Janssen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Turner's head.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Janssen instigates a clinch.
Turner is trying to break free.
Janssen will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Turner up against the ropes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Turner is trying to force a seperation but Janssen has the dominant position.

Turner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Janssen darts in looking for a takedown but Turner gets double underhooks and turns Janssen into the ropes.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Turner, as that shot connected.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Turner is defended easily by Janssen.
Janssen tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Turner manages to circle out of the way.

Turner connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Turner throws a lazy right hand but Janssen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Janssen dodges the punch combination from Turner.
Janssen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Turner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Janssen somewhat.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Janssen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Turner shoots in for a takedown but Janssen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Janssen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Turner is fending him off so far but Janssen persists. Nope, Turner circles away and we're back to standing.
Turner lands a lovely overhand right.
Turner has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Janssen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Turner tries to avoid it but Janssen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Turner to the ground. Turner escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Turner enables Janssen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Turner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Turner wriggles free and stands up.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Turner scores with a one two! Janssen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Turner lands a right hook to the body.
Turner misses with a few strikes there.
Turner keeps Janssen at a distance using the push kick.
Lucas Janssen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kentrell Turner is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Janssen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Turner wants to counter with a clinch but Janssen pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kentrell Turner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Turner winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
