PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drunken Armadillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rage has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Drunken Armadillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcus Rage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armadillo has closed the distance and engaged Rage in a clinch.
Rage looks gassed!
A head punch blocked on the inside by Rage.

Armadillo jumps guard and drags Rage to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Armadillo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rage is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Armadillo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rage's back instead.

Armadillo has got his arm under Rage's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Rage has spun round into Armadillo's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
Rage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Armadillo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rage is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Armadillo.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Armadillo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Armadillo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Rage with a flurry of punches that miss.

Armadillo looking for a guillotine here but Rage defends easily.
Rage throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Armadillo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Armadillo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Armadillo has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rage has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Armadillo connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Rage to escape the position.
Rage is trying to break free.

Armadillo is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Armadillo gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Armadillo gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Armadillo apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Armadillo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Armadillo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rage sprawls well initially but Armadillo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Armadillo uses his free foot to push down on Rage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rage.

Armadillo postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rage looks a forlorn figure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rage tries to hold on but Armadillo postures up.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Armadillo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Armadillo stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Armadillo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drunken Armadillo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rage slips a jab and a cross from Armadillo.
Armadillo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Armadillo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rage.
Armadillo throws a looping overhand right but Rage ducks down to avoid it.

Rage drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Armadillo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rage wants to control from the top but Armadillo keeps moving.

Armadillo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rage counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Armadillo is pulling down on Rage's head. It's preventing any offense from Rage, at least for the moment.

Rage drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rage jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Armadillo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Armadillo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rage doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rage manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rage avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Armadillo has his foot on Rage's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rage works his way back into a safe position though.
Rage passes Armadillo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Rage seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Armadillo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rage thows a huge punch but Armadillo dodges it nicely.
Drunken Armadillo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Armadillo tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Armadillo is staying active underneath Rage, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from Rage. No joy for Armadillo on that attempt.

Rage changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Armadillo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rage thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Armadillo is trying to control Rage's posture but Rage avoids it.

Rage wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Armadillo, who protects the arm well.
Armadillo throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Rage wants to lay and pray for a moment but Armadillo keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Armadillo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Armadillo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Armadillo is looking to take a break and control but Rage is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Armadillo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rage is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Rage wants to improve his position but Armadillo is controlling well.
Rage is not content to let Armadillo control the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Armadillo connects with a nice short shot to Rage's temple.
Armadillo seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Armadillo uses his free foot to push down on Rage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rage.

Armadillo has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Rage is forced to tap!
