Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Batts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Lawson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawson throws a hook to the side of Batts's head but Batts sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lawson tries to clinch but Batts moves out of range.

Lawson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Batts regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Lawson.
Batts trying to keep a closed guard but Lawson is proving a slippery customer.

Batts wriggles free and stands up.
Lawson ducks straight into an uppercut from Batts and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Lawson maanges to regain guard straight away.
Lawson wants to stand and escape but Batts is having none of it.

Batts decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Batts misses with a jab, cross combination.
Batts pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Lawson gets a takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Batts makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Batts.
Lawson is fighting to break Batts's control of his arms but Batts is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lawson is looking to work some ground and pound but Batts has wrist control.
Lawson postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Batts controlling Lawson's posture.
Lawson throws and elbow that misses. Batts uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lawson's guard. Nice move by Batts!
Batts is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lawson throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Batts stands up and waves to Lawson to follow him.
Billy Batts is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lawson dodges the punch combination from Batts.
Lawson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Batts fails to land with a series of punches.

Lawson scores with a takedown into Batts's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lawson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Batts looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lawson is one step ahead there.
Batts is trying to keep Lawson in close.
Lawson wants to stand and escape but instead Batts has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Lawson trying to keep a closed guard but Batts is proving a slippery customer.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lawson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lawson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Batts controls the pace.
Lawson wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Batts drops his shoulder and cracks Lawson with a huge uppercut! Lawson goes down! Can Batts finish him?

Batts decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Lawson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Lawson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Lawson looks gassed!
Batts looks to throw the jab but Lawson is out of range.
Batts cracks Lawson with an uppercut from hell and Lawson crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Batts's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!


Lawson is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Batts forces his way into half guard.
Lawson is still in real trouble! Can Batts finish him?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Batts decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Lawson is holding his hands too far apart here. Batts throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Lawson is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Billy Batts!
