The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Emelianenko's hands.
John with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Emelianenko is trying hard to land a takedown here. John sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
John tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
John lands a body shot.
John fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Emelianenko shoots in looking for a takedown. John tries to sprawl out of it but Emelianenko keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. John manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Emelianenko tries to clinch but John moves away
and John counters with a stiff right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Emelianenko misses with a takedown
and John counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Emelianenko is breathing heavily.
John uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
John is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
John wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

John scores with a hook to the body. Emelianenko takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
John throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
John lands a nice shot that snaps Emelianenko's head back.
Emelianenko doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

John feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Emelianenko sprawling to the canvas! Emelianenko rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can John finish him?!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Emelianenko is rocked!
John fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Emelianenko square on the jaw! Damn, Emelianenko is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!
