The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua wants to clinch up but Victory keeps it at a distance.
Victory dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rua fails with the takedown.
Victory cracks Rua with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Rua closes the distance and clinches up with Victory, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes Victory against the cage but Victory circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Victory misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rua.
Victory with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rua shoots in but Victory avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Aussie Victory has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Rua.

Rua shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Victory's guard.

Victory wants to sweep but no luck.
Rua sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Victory's guard.
Victory is looking for a sweep. Rua is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Rua wants to lay and pray for a moment but Victory keeps working.

Rua is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Victory is just riding it out for now. Rua eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rua slips a jab and a cross from Victory.
Aussie Victory seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Victory throws a right hand that Rua ducks under and follows up with a left that Rua also avoids with ease.

Rua shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rua showed some decent athleticism there.
Victory tries to get to full guard but Rua has control of the leg.

Victory trying to hold on to Rua's head to control him but Rua postures up.
Rua is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rua wants to pass the guard but Victory is defending well.
Rua is looking to take a break and control but Victory is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Victory moves into full guard.
Victory wants to stand and escape but Rua is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Victory looking to control.
Rua trying to control the position from guard on top but Victory is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rua slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rua thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Aussie Victory will probably get the nod.

Rua shoots in but Victory avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Victory thuds his right hand into Rua's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Victory lands with a straight right. Rua didn't see that one coming.
