PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wetu Salumu (ranked 4761 p4p, 24744 weight class) and Columbo Jolumbo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salumu fails with an attempt to clinch.

Jolumbo gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Salumu wants to control but Jolumbo is keeping busy.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jolumbo connects with a nice short shot to Salumu's temple.
Jolumbo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jolumbo tries to pass to full mount but Salumu defends it.
Jolumbo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salumu tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jolumbo defends well and Salumu ends up having to push Jolumbo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And Jolumbo tries to counter it with a takedown but Salumu pushes his down on his head and steps out.

It looks like Wetu Salumu has been cut.

Jolumbo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Salumu.
Jolumbo throws a fast counter high kick but Salumu manages to duck under it in time.
Salumu shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jolumbo wants to counter the offense by Salumu and move into the clinch position.

Salumu has one foot on Jolumbo's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Jolumbo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Salumu, pushing him back against the cage.

Salumu is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jolumbo is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Salumu to the mat. Salumu regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jolumbo seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

It looks like Jolumbo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Jolumbo is stalling here. Salumu is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jolumbo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Salumu has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salumu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jolumbo keeps working.
Salumu is trying to move to mount but Jolumbo reverses beautifully and ends up in Salumu's guard.

And Jolumbo tries to counter it with a takedown but Salumu pushes his down on his head and steps out.

As Salumu backs off Jolumbo throws a huge counter combo but Salumu manages to avoid it all.
Columbo Jolumbo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jolumbo lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jolumbo.

and Jolumbo counters with a big slam. Salumu looks out but Jolumbo is landing strikes to his unconscious opponent! Eventually the ref steps in to save Salumu from any more punishment. A brutal conclusion to the fight!
