PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Konichiwa Jempsa (ranked 1008 p4p, 1890 weight class) and Lokee Hyde (ranked 120 p4p, 222 weight class). Konichiwa Jempsa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Konichiwa Jempsa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lokee Hyde!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.

Jempsa throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Jempsa drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hyde has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jempsa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hyde is looking for a triangle here but Jempsa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Jempsa works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Hyde is looking to regain half guard here but Jempsa keeps moving and retains side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hyde is not content to let Jempsa control the position.
Hyde takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Jempsa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jempsa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hyde looks to move to half guard but instead Jempsa has passed into mount! Damn!

Jempsa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hyde looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hyde has momentary wrist control but Jempsa slips an elbow through the middle.

Hyde looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jempsa landing with the ground and pound.

Hyde working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jempsa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jempsa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jempsa chips away with some ground and pound.
Jempsa is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Hyde working for submissions but it's allowed Jempsa to get to half guard.
Jempsa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hyde with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jempsa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hyde defends it well.
Hyde is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jempsa winds up and cracks Hyde with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Jempsa wants to free his trapped foot but Hyde is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Hyde tries to get to full guard but Jempsa has control of the leg.
Hyde is pressing down on Jempsa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Hyde looking for a guillotine here but Jempsa defends easily.
Jempsa connects with a couple of short punches.
Jempsa stays in close to Hyde's body and controls the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jempsa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hyde's head.

Hyde throws his legs up looking for a submission but Jempsa uses it to pass to side control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Konichiwa Jempsa dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hyde displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jempsa.
Hyde tries to counter by closing the distance.

Jempsa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hyde to the mat! Hyde manages to get full guard.

Hyde looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jempsa is one step ahead there.

Hyde is looking for a triangle but Jempsa pushes his legs off easily.

Jempsa is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Hyde is in trouble now - Jempsa has advanced to mount!
Jempsa controlling his opponent.
Hyde is looking to improve his position but Jempsa isn't that keen on the idea.
Hyde is squirming around, avoiding Jempsa's attempts to control the action.
Hyde keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hyde taking shots to the head.

Jempsa is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hyde can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Jempsa has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hyde's face.
Hyde tries to reverse the position but Jempsa maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jempsa is landing with some decent strikes but Hyde is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Hyde is rocked!
Konichiwa Jempsa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hyde tries to reverse the position but Jempsa maintains control.
Hyde is still in real trouble! Can Jempsa finish him?
Jempsa pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Jempsa landing shots from mount.
Jempsa working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Jempsa connects with a bit shot that sees Hyde covering up! More strikes from Jempsa and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Jempsa is our winner by TKO!

A very excited looking Konichiwa Jempsa made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
