Bates kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Go Into The Water - Dethklok. Steve Partridge has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Partridge!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Partridge looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bates is fending him off so far but Partridge persists. Nope, Bates circles away and we're back to standing.
Bates slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bates tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Partridge paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Partridge swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bates is looking to clinch.
A good leg kick by Bates.
Partridge misses with a two punch combination.
A big right from Partridge misses.

Bates rushes Partridge and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Partridge blocks the elbow strike.
Partridge wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bates has him pressed against the cage.
Partridge avoids a wild elbow strike from Bates.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Partridge pulls guard.
Bates has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Partridge is proving hard to escape from.
Bates wants to control from the top but Partridge keeps moving.
Bates wants to pass the guard but Partridge is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bates trying to control the position from guard on top but Partridge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Partridge is pulling down on Bates's head to control his posture.
Partridge keeping moving, preventing Bates from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Partridge wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Partridge can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bates tries to clinch there but Partridge circles away.
Partridge lands with a hook. Bates tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
A big right from Partridge misses.
Bates tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Partridge paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Partridge misses the jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bates looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Partridge bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bates's head.
A jab lands there for Partridge.
Bates displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Partridge throws out the jab.
Bates tries to clinch but Partridge moves out of range.
Partridge throws a head kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Partridge dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

and Bates counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Partridge thinking.
Bates thows a body shot but no joy.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bates looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Partridge doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bates counters with a nice low kick that buckles Partridge's knee momentarily.
Partridge swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Bates counters with a good low kick that Partridge was not able to check.
Partridge takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Partridge swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bates.

Partridge shoots and misses

and Bates counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Partridge is breathing heavily.

Bates is trying for a kimura here. Partridge looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Bates wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Norman Bates!
