PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Boleslav Makarenko (ranked 6769 p4p, 5664 weight class) and Jake Smith (ranked 569 p4p, 524 weight class). Jake Smith told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smith.
Makarenko misses with a hook to the body

and Smith counters with a single leg into guard. Makarenko didn't expect that.

Makarenko knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Smith drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Makarenko dives on top into guard.

Makarenko lunges at Smith with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Smith's hand.

Makarenko ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

It looked like Makarenko was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Smith.
Smith takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Makarenko throws a series of strikes that have Smith backpedaling.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Makarenko wants to get back to striking at distance but Smith won't allow it.

Smith lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Smith is trying to trip Makarenko. He has hold of a leg but Makarenko is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Smith persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
