PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Leo (ranked 4769 p4p, 6580 weight class) and Kevin Kulter (ranked 518 p4p, 620 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

Kulter fails with the takedown
and Leo counters with a three punch combo that has Kulter backing up. Kulter nods at Leo to acknowledge the strikes.
Leo throws a right and a left that both miss.

Kulter clinches.
Kulter tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Kulter ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kulter no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Leo is looking to stand up but Kulter won't let him.

Kulter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Leo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leo wanted to stand there but Kulter had control of the position.
Leo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Leo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Kulter with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Leo to score with a decent uppercut.
Leo dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Leo throws a right and a left that Kulter avoids nicely.
Kulter looks for the body kick but Leo saw that one coming.
Leo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kulter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Leo circles away.

Leo lands a jab to Kulter's midsection.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A lazy left from Leo finds it's target.
Leo lands with a hook. Kulter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Leo pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Kulter back to the cage. Leo follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Kulter is looking to slow Leo down with leg kicks.
Kulter shoots in looking for a takedown. Leo tries to sprawl out of it but Kulter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Leo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Leo is trying to push Kulter away but Kulter has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Leo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kulter.
Leo ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Leo lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Leo cracks Kulter with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Kulter dives in and scores a takedown into Leo's guard.

Kulter closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Leo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Leo wants to get back to striking at distance but Kulter won't allow it.
Kulter keeps control of Leo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Leo is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Kulter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Leo but Leo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kevin Kulter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
