PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Speva Koso (ranked 478 p4p, 451 weight class) and Charles Hawtry (ranked 75 p4p, 67 weight class). Hawtry has chosen The Rain as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 13 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Speva Koso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Hawtry!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and Phil Schofield.

Koso throws a leg kick
and Hawtry counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Koso swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Speva Koso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Koso lands with an uppercut that bounces Hawtry off the cage and back into range.

Koso throws the kick towards the body but Hawtry avoids it.

Hawtry displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Koso throws out the jab.
Hawtry lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Hawtry has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Koso lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Hawtry scores with a shot to the body.
Koso has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Koso throws a wild body kick that Hawtry sees coming a mile off.
Hawtry feints the counter takedown.
Koso rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hawtry moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hawtry tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Koso was well out of range. Poor timing from Hawtry.
Koso leaves Hawtry with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Koso throws a low kick but Hawtry avoids it.

Koso darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Hawtry dives in and grabs Koso's left leg, looking for a takedown. Koso pushes down on Hawtry's head and hops out.
Hawtry fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Koso manages to avoid it.
Koso has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Koso there as he acknowledges the shot.
Koso lands a jab to Hawtry's midsection.
Hawtry tests Koso's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Hawtry shoots in for a takedown but Koso shows good takedown defense.
Speva Koso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Hawtry.

Koso throws a jab when Hawtry was well out of range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Koso.
Koso throws a quick inside leg kick.

Hawtry feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hawtry got a little sloppy there for a moment and Koso has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hawtry has managed to get both his arms back between Koso's legs - danger averted.
Hawtry is in close to Koso's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hawtry wants to control from the top but Koso keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Koso working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hawtry doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hawtry manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hawtry looking to sit in guard and control but Koso gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Koso stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hawtry swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hawtry seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Koso trying to keep a closed guard but Hawtry is proving a slippery customer.

That was a close round but I would say that Speva Koso will probably get the nod.

Hawtry takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Hawtry lands an overhand right.
Koso takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Koso throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Koso connects with a looping right hand.
Hawtry throws a jab but it's blocked by Koso.
Hawtry dips to his left and cracks Koso with an uppercut!

Koso tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hawtry was well out of range. Poor timing from Koso.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hawtry lands a few punches from side control.
Hawtry is looking to take a break and control but Koso is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hawtry is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Koso's shoulder. That is not cool.

Hawtry cracks Koso with a big right hand but Koso just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Koso is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hawtry connects with a decent elbow.
Hawtry controls the position from side control.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koso takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Charles Hawtry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Hawtry shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Koso pinned against the cage. Koso gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

It seemed like Hawtry was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Koso has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hawtry can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Koso is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hawtry is aware though and is defending well.
Hawtry has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hawtry keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Koso's head.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hawtry arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Koso's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
