The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peixoto throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mac Carthaigh's waist but Mac Carthaigh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Peixoto off to one side.

Mac Carthaigh changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Peixoto looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Peixoto had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mac Carthaigh is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Peixoto Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mac Carthaigh's back instead.

Peixoto has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Mac Carthaigh has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Mac Carthaigh is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Peixoto is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
