Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Digo Maha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Alves!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maha has Alves up against the cage in a clinch.
Maha wants to break free but Alves has control.

Maha pulls guard effortlessly.
Maha not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Alves throwing strikes from guard but Maha blocks nicely.
Alves with a flurry of punches that miss.

Maha looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Alves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maha. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alves tries to stand but Maha is controlling from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Maha is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alves moves away from the strike by Maha.

Alves has Maha up against the cage in a clinch.

Maha manages to break the clinch.

Alves scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Maha is looking to improve his position.

Maha keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Alves wants to stand up but Maha has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Maha punishes Alves with strikes from the back mount.
What can Alves do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Maha is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Alves up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alves is in bad spot here.

Maha moves into the clinch.

Maha gets control of Alves's arms and successfully pulls guard. Maha will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Maha manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Digo Maha is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Maha swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Alves darts in trying to clinch
and Maha counters with a nice body kick.
Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Maha counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Alves!
Alves wants to hold on but Maha pushes him away.

Maha is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Alves can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Alves can't escape the position.
Alves tries to lock up and control but Maha gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Alves reaches up to try and control the position but Maha seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Alves rolls and tries to escape and now Maha has his back!

Maha connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Alves to escape the position.
Maha avoiding Alves 's attempts to control his hands.
Alves tries to escape but Maha has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Maha controls the position.
Alves rolls, trying to escape but Maha keeps control of the position.
Alves controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Alves has his takedown stuffed

and Maha counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Alves is trying to get back to full guard.
Maha stalling.
Maha lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Alves with a poor takedown

and Maha counters with a takedown into side control.
Alves gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Alves is trying to control but can't.
Digo Maha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Maha slows the pace down in half guard.
Alves is in trouble now - Maha has advanced to mount!
Alves wants to control but Maha is having none of it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Maha working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Alves turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Maha off and cradles Alves's limp body as Maha celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Digo Maha!
