PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between thick legg mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Mulligan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, thick legg mcgee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Mulligan!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
mcgee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mulligan circles away.
Mulligan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

mcgee darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
mcgee is trying to control. Mulligan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
mcgee content to control rather than advance.
Mulligan is looking to improve his position.
mcgee thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

mcgee postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mulligan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of mcgee, into his guard.

mcgee working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mulligan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mulligan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mulligan trying to control the position from guard on top but mcgee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

mcgee feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
mcgee is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Mulligan throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

mcgee drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mulligan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mulligan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mulligan!

mcgee is looking for a sweep.
mcgee has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mulligan trying to control the position but mcgee is working away.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Mulligan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
mcgee takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
You can see the frustration on mcgee's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice takedown defense from Mulligan. No joy for mcgee on that attempt.

mcgee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mulligan but Mulligan pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Mulligan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Mulligan makes his way to full guard, as mcgee worked for a kimura.
mcgee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mulligan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Mulligan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
mcgee tries to get to full guard but Mulligan has control of the leg.
Mulligan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mulligan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
mcgee wants to get back to full guard.
mcgee wants to control but Mulligan is keeping busy.
Mulligan is taking a breather. mcgee says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Mulligan counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mulligan.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mulligan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mulligan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

mcgee has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mulligan is working away from the top position though.
Mulligan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for mcgee!

Mulligan is going olschool here, as he tries to force mcgee to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so mcgee shrugs it off.

Mulligan is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. mcgee knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften mcgee for a finish.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
mcgee wants to control his opponent's hands but Mulligan gets his hands free.
Mulligan doesn't have the hooks in and mcgee manages to turn into his guard.

Mulligan has his foot on mcgee's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. mcgee works his way back into a safe position though.

Mulligan is pressed up against the cage. mcgee has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mulligan down to the mat. Mulligan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mulligan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mulligan tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Mulligan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. mcgee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
mcgee can't do much from the bottom here.
Mulligan throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

mcgee working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Mulligan's thigh. Mulligan counters though and makes it back to full guard.

mcgee wants to get up but he can't break Mulligan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
mcgee working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mulligan's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mulligan wants to control from the top but mcgee keeps moving.

Mulligan is looking for a kimura but mcgee is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mulligan to get the leverage.

I would just about give that final round to Paul Mulligan.
Well Mulligan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
