PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Merlin (ranked 3724 p4p, 1916 weight class) and Billy Quinn (ranked 419 p4p, 240 weight class). Quinn has chosen Bad MF as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xavier Merlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Quinn!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quinn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Quinn bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Merlin's head backwards.
Quinn misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Quinn throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Quinn throws a right and a left that Merlin avoids nicely.
It looked like Merlin was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Quinn is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Merlin throws a head kick that misses.
Quinn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Quinn misses with a hook.
Merlin seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Quinn feints a jab promting Merlin to slip. Quinn then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Merlin slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Merlin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Merlin lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Merlin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Merlin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Quinn is trying to get back to half guard.

Merlin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Quinn to his feet.
Merlin shoots and misses
and Merlin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Quinn misses with a looping right.
Merlin takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Quinn tries to keep at a distance but Merlin has taken the fight into the clinch.
Quinn lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Quinn throws an elbow but it misses.
Merlin is looking to break free of the clinch but Quinn has double underhooks.
Merlin has Quinn pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Quinn manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Quinn is working for takedown but Merlin is calmly controlling the position for now.
Quinn tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Merlin's elbow.

Merlin jumps guard and drags Quinn to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Quinn throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Quinn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Merlin was well out of range. Poor timing from Quinn.
Merlin appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Quinn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Quinn throws an overhand right that lands on Merlin's shoulder, as Merlin tries to avoid the shot.
Merlin looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Quinn misses with a straight left.
Merlin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Quinn's waist but Quinn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Merlin off to one side.
Merlin shoots in and drives through. Quinn sprawls well.

Merlin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Quinn was covering up waiting for the punch and Merlin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Xavier Merlin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Merlin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Merlin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Quinn defends well and Merlin ends up having to push Quinn into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Merlin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Quinn sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Merlin somewhat.

Quinn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Merlin's guard.

Well Quinn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
