Kuiva is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Shamrock closes the distance but Kuiva moves to the side
and Shamrock takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kuiva lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

It looks like Stan Shamrock has been cut.
Shamrock moves out of range of the strikes.
Kuiva steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Shamrock.
Kuiva throws out a loose jab but Shamrock uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kuiva gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Shamrock takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

and Shamrock takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shamrock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kuiva was well out of range. Poor timing from Shamrock.
Kuiva throws out a counter right but Shamrock avoids it with no problem.

Shamrock closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kuiva misses with the head strike.
Shamrock lands a nice uppercut.
Shamrock scores with a shot to the side of Kuiva's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shamrock decides to pull guard.
Shamrock on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shamrock tries to get out of the position.

Shamrock working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kuiva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kuiva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Shamrock looking for subs off his back but Kuiva has passed one foot through into half guard.
Shamrock is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kuiva's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kuiva's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
