The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stevens pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Stevens fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stevens wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Smith has him pressed against the cage.
Stevens tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage.
Stevens lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Smith tries to work over Stevens's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Stevens really is a fat lump.
Stevens fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Stevens. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stevens tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Smith has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Stevens regains guard immediately.
Smith wants to control from the top but Stevens keeps moving.
Smith wanted to stand there but Stevens had control of the position.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stevens escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Stevens pushes Smith off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Stevens fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Stevens gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Smith.
Stevens is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith scores with a body shot.

A head kick lands from Smith that sends Stevens to the canvas. Stevens tries to scramble back to his feet but Smith brings him back down into side control.

It looks like Jim Stevens has been cut.
Smith scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Stevens is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Smith can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
