PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lukas Hooper (ranked 3155 p4p, 2322 weight class) and Rubicon Jay (ranked 156 p4p, 121 weight class). Rubicon Jay told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Lukas Hooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rubicon Jay!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.

Hooper is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jay sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jay throws a counter combo.
Hooper looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Jay throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jay looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hooper drops down looking for a counter takedown but Jay sprawls and moves away.
Jay shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hooper pinned against the cage. Hooper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hooper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hooper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jay tries to bench press Hooper off him but Hooper keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hooper is looking to take a break and control but Jay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jay tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hooper wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Jay throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Hooper shoots in and drives through. Jay sprawls well.

Hooper is looking for a triangle but Jay pushes his legs off easily.

Jay wants to stand and escape but instead Hooper has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Hooper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jay has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hooper has managed to get both his arms back between Jay's legs - danger averted.

Jay has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hooper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jay is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hooper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jay is working away from the top position though.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Jay closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hooper's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Hooper has his foot on Jay's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jay works his way back into a safe position though.

Jay isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hooper stacks Jay on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hooper!

You can see the frustration on Jay's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rubicon Jay is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lukas Hooper.
Well Jay has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Rubicon Jay started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
