PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quik Yin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Magne Midgard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yin comes into the arena with I Got A Feeling (lol :P) blaring out of the sound system. Midgard has chosen Crazy Train as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quik Yin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Magne Midgard!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yin tries for a takedown but Midgard sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Yin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Yin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Midgard knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Yin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Midgard, who protects the arm well.

Yin wants to take a breather but Midgard manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Yin.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Yin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Yin passes Midgard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Yin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Midgard is just riding it out for now. Yin eventually gives up the hold.

Yin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Midgard doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yin.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Yin throwing shots but Midgard is blocking nicely.
Yin seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Midgard is looking for a sweep. Yin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Midgard is looking to control Yin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Midgard avoid being mounted?
Midgard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Yin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Yin's back!

Yin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Midgard doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Midgard manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Midgard is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Yin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Midgard is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Yin.
Midgard content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yin is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Midgard pulls his head out easily.

Yin wants to control but Midgard is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Midgard's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Let's hope that Midgard has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Despite being in the dominant position, Magne Midgard just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
