PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karelin comes to the ring accompanied by Krynitza - Motherland. On his way into the ring it seems that Alex Karelin has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Alex Karelin seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Karelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Austin!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Austin thuds his shin into the meat of Karelin's side.
Austin ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Steve Austin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Austin plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Alex Karelin has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Karelin misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Austin.
Karelin takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

A solid leg kick lands there for Austin.
Austin avoids the body shot from Karelin.

Austin throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Karelin stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Austin follows into mount!

Karelin is looking to improve his position but Austin isn't that keen on the idea.

Karelin wants to control but Austin is having none of it.
Karelin is desperately trying to improve his position but Austin has a good base and remains in mount.
Karelin bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Austin is looking to stand up but Karelin isn't so interested in that idea.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Karelin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Karelin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Karelin creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Austin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Austin wants to control but Karelin postures up.

Karelin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Austin rushes Karelin and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Karelin misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Austin tries to score a body lock takedown but Karelin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Austin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Austin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Karelin.
Karelin blocks a head kick by Austin.

Karelin clinches.

Karelin has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Austin is trying to keep an underhook but Karelin manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Karelin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Karelin stands and throws Austin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Karelin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Karelin cracks Austin with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Karelin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Austin, who protects the arm well.
Karelin moves into full mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Austin is squirming around, avoiding Karelin's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Austin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alex Karelin's cut.
That's time! Karelin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Austin with a nice cross.
Austin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Karelin pinned against the cage. Karelin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Karelin is looking to clinch.
Karelin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Karelin lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Austin at a distance.
Austin connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Karelin is looking to wear down Austin with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Karelin avoids the head kick by Austin.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Austin. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Karelin loads up on a big right hand but Austin slips the punch.

and Austin counters by clinching up.
Austin wants to break free but Karelin has control.

Austin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Karelin lands a nice looking body shot.
Austin is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Karelin lands a jab.
Steve Austin seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Karelin takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Karelin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Karelin distracts Austin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Karelin controlling from the top position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Karelin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Austin keeping moving, preventing Karelin from controlling successfully.
Karelin throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Karelin is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Karelin wants to control from the top but Austin keeps moving.

Austin pushes Karelin off and scrambles back to his feet.

Karelin instigates a clinch.

Karelin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Austin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Austin goes for a takedown attempt but Karelin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Karelin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Karelin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Austin moves away.
Karelin looks to score with a jab to the body but Austin is just out of range.
Austin connects with a high kick.

Karelin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Karelin throws a strike but Austin avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Karelin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Austin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Austin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Austin!

Austin wants to control but Karelin is keeping him busy.
Karelin gets back to half guard.
Austin is trying to control the action in half guard but Karelin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Karelin tries to roll over but Austin keeps him under control.
Karelin moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karelin looks up at the clock and then as Austin takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Karelin smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Karelin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Austin some visible discomfort.
Austin is trying to control Karelin's posture but Karelin avoids it.
Karelin works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Austin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Karelin is working Austin over with some ground and pound from side control.

Austin is looking to reverse the position.

Austin parries the strikes from Karelin easily there. Karelin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Austin to escape.

Austin manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Karelin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Karelin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Karelin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Karelin keeping moving, preventing Austin from controlling successfully.
Karelin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Austin is one step ahead there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Karelin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
