The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Garcia tries to clinch up but Fernandes circles away and keeps his distance.
Garcia tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fernandes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fernandes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Garcia as he avoids it easily.

Fernandes is trying to drag Garcia to the mat but Garcia just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Garcia tries to land a knee to the head but Fernandes blocks with his arms.

and Fernandes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fernandes jumps guard but Garcia stands there with Fernandes around his waist. Fernandes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Fernandes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Garcia is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fernandes, into his guard.

Garcia thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Fernandes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Garcia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fernandes had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Garcia is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Fernandes Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Garcia's back instead.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fernandes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Garcia keeps working.

Garcia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
