PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Murvis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ronald Murvis!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown moves out of range as Murvis strikes.

Brown looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Brown throwing shots but Murvis is blocking nicely.
Brown looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Brown is trying to control. Murvis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Brown working the head and body with strikes.
Murvis flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Murvis tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Brown manages to move to mount!
Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brown lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Brown landing strikes, looking to finish!
Murvis wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Brown has control of Murvis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Murvis regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Brown cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Murvis is looking to improve his position but Brown isn't that keen on the idea.
Murvis is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Brown trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brown sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Murvis taking shots to the head.
Murvis is squirming around, avoiding Brown's attempts to control the action.
Brown scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Murvis is desperately trying to improve his position but Brown has a good base and remains in mount.
Brown wants to control the pace but Murvis is squirming around nicely.
Brown putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Brown scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Murvis is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Murvis looks gassed!
Brown pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Murvis is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Brown is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Murvis can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Brown postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Murvis looks a forlorn figure.

Brown looking to control and managing it successfully.
Murvis is trying to stand up.
Brown sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Murvis's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Brown lands a nice shot to the head.
Brown content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Brown dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Brown closes the distance and clinches.
A nice left hand lands by Brown.
Brown fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Brown's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Brown is trying to stall.
Murvis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Brown gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Brown gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Brown stops Murvis from standing up.
Brown pushes down on Murvis's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Brown looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Murvis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brown is trying to control the action in half guard but Murvis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Still in half guard, Brown seems content to control.
Murvis wants to get back to full guard.
Brown seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Brown lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Brown tries to pass to full mount but Murvis defends it.
Brown drops an elbow to the side of Murvis's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Murvis wants to control the action here but instead Brown manages to pass to full mount!
Brown lands a heavy elbow.
BOOM! Brown connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Brown is going olschool here, as he tries to force Murvis to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Murvis shrugs it off.
Murvis gets back to half guard.
Brown wants to stand but Murvis has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Murvis tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Brown looks to land a strike but Murvis avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Murvis keeping moving, preventing Brown from controlling successfully.
Murvis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Brown slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Murvis tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Brown presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Brown could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Brown lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Brown landing strikes from the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Murvis wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Brown has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Murvis taps furiously! This one is all over!
