PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Brownie (ranked 2297 p4p, 3023 weight class) and Billy Cubbedge (ranked 283 p4p, 350 weight class). Billy Cubbedge will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shaun Brownie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Cubbedge !
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brownie slips a jab and a cross from Cubbedge .
Cubbedge bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
A combination from Cubbedge does no damage.
The fighters circling - Brownie throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cubbedge drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Brownie defends it well.
Cubbedge jabs Brownie right on the nose. Brownie blinks but takes it well.

Cubbedge decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Cubbedge wants to free his trapped foot but Brownie is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Cubbedge is controlling the pace.
Brownie is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brownie is trying to maintain the position but Cubbedge is very close to passing his half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cubbedge in particular looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brownie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brownie wants to control but Cubbedge is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cubbedge trying to control from half guard but Brownie is working away.

The fighters are battling for position here. Brownie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brownie is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Brownie has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cubbedge darts in looking for a takedown but Brownie gets double underhooks and turns Cubbedge into the cage.
A nice combination there by Brownie.

It looks like Billy Cubbedge has been cut.
Brownie throws the left hand but Cubbedge avoids the punch easily.
Cubbedge misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Cubbedge closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Brownie did well to prevent Cubbedge getting side control.
Brownie wants to get back to full guard.
Brownie is looking to control Cubbedge 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Brownie avoid being mounted?
Brownie is not content to let Cubbedge control the position.

Brownie tries to roll over but Cubbedge keeps him under control.
Brownie moves into full guard.
Brownie looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cubbedge controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cubbedge being controlled here momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brownie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
My spies in The White Castle inform me that Cubbedge has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Cubbedge 's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Brownie kicks Cubbedge off and gets to his feet.
Cubbedge throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Cubbedge misses with a series of wild punches.
As Cubbedge looks to move away, Brownie throws a big counter combo but Cubbedge just gets out of the way.
Brownie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cubbedge but Cubbedge pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cubbedge fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Brownie checks it well.
Brownie swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Brownie just misses with a punch to the body.
Brownie moves out of range of the strikes.
Cubbedge swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Brownie counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shaun Brownie will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Billy Cubbedge 's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

Brownie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cubbedge .
Cubbedge swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cubbedge displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Brownie throws out the jab.
Brownie blocks a low kick nicely.
A little feinted left hand from Brownie on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A big right from Cubbedge misses.
Brownie lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Cubbedge is rocked!
Cubbedge bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Cubbedge tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Cubbedge is still on wobbly legs! Can Brownie finish him?
Brownie dips to his left and cracks Cubbedge with an uppercut!
Cubbedge ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brownie moves away.
Brownie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cubbedge was well out of range. Poor timing from Brownie.
No joy there for Brownie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Brownie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cubbedge .
Brownie swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Brownie looks to throw the jab but Cubbedge is out of range.
BOOM! Brownie lands a beautiful left hook that drops Cubbedge . Cubbedge tries to recover but Brownie is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Cubbedge lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shaun Brownie!
Shaun Brownie decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
