PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Who (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saint Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Who kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Let the body hit the floor. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Saint Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierre showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Who.
Pierre lands a jab-cross combination.
Who lands a jab to the nose.
Pierre lands with a thumping leg kick.
Who throws a left and a right that both miss

and Pierre counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Pierre lands with a punch from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pierre stalling.
Who wants to control but Pierre is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pierre has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Pierre scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Who?
Who is trying to reverse the position but instead Pierre has taken his back - oops!
Who takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Pierre doesn't have the hooks in and Who manages to turn into his guard.
Pierre pulls Who in close to prevent any damage.
Who thows a big elbow that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Who can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pierre tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Who is in close to Pierre's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Who is breathing heavily.
Who is fighting to break Pierre's control of his arms but Pierre is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Who throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Pierre manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Pierre darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Who won't allow Pierre to pass to mount.
Pierre with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Who trying to control but Pierre postures up.
Who misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pierre in particular looking to stall.
Who makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Who.
Pierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Who swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Who throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Who tries to strike from the bottom.
Pierre not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Pierre stays in close to Who's body and controls the position.
Who trying to strike off his back.
Pierre working some strikes from top position.
Who has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Who tries to clinch up but Pierre circles away and keeps his distance.
Pierre fails with a takedown attempt.
Saint Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Pierre counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pierre makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Who will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pierre seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Who wants to stand and escape but Pierre is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Pierre drops down looking for an ankle pick but Who pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pierre fails with the takedown.

Johnny Who has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saint Pierre.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Pierre crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Who - the referee stops the clock and Pierre gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Who. Pierre manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Who forces Pierre back against the cage and clinches.
Who is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pierre pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Pierre utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Who tries to free his leg and advance position but Pierre is retaining full guard.
Pierre looking for a sweep. Not yet Pierre, not yet.
Who trying to control but Pierre is working from the bottom.
Who connects with a couple of short punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pierre manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Saint Pierre has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pierre is landing with some decent strikes but Who is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Who is working to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Who is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pierre cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Who tries to lock up and control but Pierre gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee warns Who that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Pierre is in the full mount, landing strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pierre is landing with some decent strikes but Who is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Pierre cracks Who with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saint Pierre showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Pierre checks a leg kick.

and Pierre counters with a single leg into guard. Who didn't expect that.

Pierre slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Pierre prevents Who from getting back to his feet.
Pierre stays in close to Who's body and controls the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Who scores with a leg kick.
Pierre takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Pierre takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Who misses with a combination

and Pierre counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Who has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pierre is working away from the top position though.

Pierre stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Who to get to his feet.

Pierre shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Pierre won't allow Who to sweep him here.
Pierre is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Who lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pierre!

Who looking to ground and pound but Pierre is blocking nicely.
Pierre avoids a series of strikes thrown by Who.

Who looking to secure an arm triangle but Pierre defends it well.
Pierre is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Who pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Who throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Pierre is trying to escape the mount.
Who trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Who throwing strikes here but Pierre is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Who working for a guillotine from mount but Pierre is in no mood to give up.
Pierre is trying to escape the mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Saint Pierre comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pierre winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
