PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Davey Kavanaugh (ranked 6782 p4p, 2979 weight class) and Jock Langdon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Davey Kavanaugh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jock Langdon!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kavanaugh avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kavanaugh feinted with a counter takedown.
Kavanaugh misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A jab lands there for Langdon.
Kavanaugh avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kavanaugh dives in and grabs Langdon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Langdon pushes down on Kavanaugh's head and hops out.
A little jabbing left from Langdon on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Langdon has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Langdon connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kavanaugh momentarily.
Langdon cracks a nice hook into Kavanaugh's ribs.
Langdon throws the left hand but Kavanaugh avoids the punch easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kavanaugh shoots in and gets a takedown into Langdon's guard.

Kavanaugh got a little sloppy there for a moment and Langdon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kavanaugh has managed to get both his arms back between Langdon's legs - danger averted.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kavanaugh wants to control from the top but Langdon keeps moving.

Langdon seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Kavanaugh wants to get back to full guard but Langdon has passed into side control.
Langdon is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee asks Langdon politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Langdon prefers to stall for the moment though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Langdon lands an elbow.
Kavanaugh is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Langdon's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Langdon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kavanaugh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Langdon is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Kavanaugh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Langdon lands a nice short elbow.

Kavanaugh tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Langdon has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Langdon goes for an armbar but Kavanaugh turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kavanaugh.

Langdon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kavanaugh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kavanaugh manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Langdon has his foot on Kavanaugh's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kavanaugh works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kavanaugh's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Langdon swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Langdon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kavanaugh manages to avoid it.

Kavanaugh feints and as Langdon raises his hands in defense, Kavanaugh changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kavanaugh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Langdon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Langdon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Langdon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Langdon pulls Kavanaugh in close to his closed guard and prevents Kavanaugh from doing any damage or advancing position.

Langdon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kavanaugh defends it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kavanaugh walks into a stiff left hand from Langdon.
Langdon takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kavanaugh takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Langdon misses the shot to the body.
Kavanaugh avoids the body shot from Langdon.
Kavanaugh throws a lazy uppercut
and Langdon counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Kavanaugh steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Langdon.
Kavanaugh has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kavanaugh there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kavanaugh avoids the body shot from Langdon.
Langdon lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Langdon lands with a shot to the body.
Kavanaugh tries for a takedown but Langdon circles away easily
and Langdon counters with a stiff right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Langdon leaves Kavanaugh with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kavanaugh walks into a left hand.

Kavanaugh is rocked!
Langdon misses the jab.
Langdon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kavanaugh takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Langdon takes one to the side of the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kavanaugh misses with a looping right.
Langdon connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Kavanaugh moves forwards but Langdon connects with a nice, crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jock Langdon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Langdon lands with a nice body punch.
Langdon is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kavanaugh misses with a takedown
and Kavanaugh takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Oh Kavanaugh is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jock Langdon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Langdon looks to land a right hand but Kavanaugh moved out of range.
Kavanaugh seems to have got his legs back now.
Kavanaugh ducks right into an uppercut from Langdon.
Kavanaugh misses with a jab to the body
and Langdon counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.
