PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Von Pong (ranked 3247 p4p, 3508 weight class) and Sam Rinaldi (ranked 414 p4p, 449 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Von Pong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Rinaldi!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rinaldi misses with a jab to the body
and Pong counters with a stiff right hand.
Pong rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rinaldi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rinaldi throws a sloppy body shot
and Rinaldi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Pong throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rinaldi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pong is in Rinaldi's guard.

Rinaldi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pong defends well.
Rinaldi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rinaldi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rinaldi keeping full guard, as Pong tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pong decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pong avoids the body shot from Rinaldi.
Rinaldi misses with a right hand
and Pong counters with a nice uppercut.

It looks like Sam Rinaldi has been cut.
Rinaldi fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Sam Rinaldi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rinaldi swings for the body but Pong moves out of range.
Rinaldi takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Rinaldi on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Rinaldi dips to his left and cracks Pong with an uppercut!
Donk. Rinaldi catches Pong right on the button with a cross.
Pong shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rinaldi but Rinaldi pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sam Rinaldi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rinaldi scores with a punch to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rinaldi enables Pong to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rinaldi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rinaldi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rinaldi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rinaldi keeping moving, preventing Pong from controlling successfully.

Pong stands up and waves to Rinaldi to follow him.
Rinaldi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pong.
A little jabbing left from Rinaldi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Rinaldi loads up on a big right hand but Pong slips the punch.
Rinaldi misses with a wild body shot.
A little feinted left hand from Pong on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rinaldi smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Pong is rocked!
Rinaldi finds Pong's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Pong flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Rinaldi lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Pong will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sam Rinaldi!
A very excited looking Sam Rinaldi made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
