PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Peter Difin (ranked 6605 p4p, 24656 weight class) and Cam Velower (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peter Difin looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Difin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cam Velower!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.

Difin moves into the clinch.
Difin looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Velower escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Difin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Velower feints the counter takedown.
Difin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Difin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Difin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Velower tries to avoid it but Difin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Velower to the ground. Velower escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velower misses with a takedown attempt - Difin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Velower is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Difin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Difin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Difin showed some decent athleticism there.
Velower tries to get to full guard but Difin has control of the leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Velower misses with a takedown

and Difin moves into the clinch.
Difin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Velower can do to turn this around?

Difin gets control of Velower's arms and successfully pulls guard. Difin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Velower's corner is telling him to maintain position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Difin holds on and takes a little breather.

Difin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Velower doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Velower manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We've been hearing good reports from Difin's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Velower is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Difin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Velower's guard.
Velower is wriggling around but Difin manages to pass to half guard.

Difin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Difin wants to stand but Velower has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Difin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Velower is trying to get back to full guard.

Difin seems to be working for a kimura but Velower defends the submission attempt.
Difin is looking to take a break and control but Velower is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Velower is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Difin pulls his head out easily.
Velower wants to improve his position but Difin is controlling well.
Difin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Difin lands a couple of good shots and Velower has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Velower shoots in but no luck this time.

Velower gets caught napping as Difin dives in and scores a takedown. Velower manages to retain guard.
Velower is looking to stand up but Difin isn't so interested in that idea.

Difin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Peter Difin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Velower is looking to control Difin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Velower avoid being mounted?

Difin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Velower makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Velower will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Difin's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Velower is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Difin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Velower is proving hard to escape from.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cam Velower has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peter Difin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Difin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Velower swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Difin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
